He knew too, that this infernal politics of insomnia lets us idly drift into some floodlit night of the world, agitated endlessly by the busyness of business, the terrible bourgeois somnambulism of mere activity and ideology critique. When in a letter to Ruge, he wrote that \u201cthe reform of consciousness consists only in making the world aware of its own consciousness, in awakening it out of its dream about itself, in explaining to it the meaning of its own actions\u201d he failed to note at the same time how the bourgeois consciousness never dreams of sleep.
